Regulatory Association for Social & Territorial Assist (RASTA)

Regulatory Association for Social & Territorial Assist (RASTA) is an independent, non-profit and community-based voluntary organization working at the grassroots level for participatory and sustainable development. Established by a group of socially committed and like-minded young individuals, RASTA works for the empowerment and upliftment of deprived, marginalized and vulnerable communities, particularly women, children, adolescents, tribal communities and PVTGs.

The organization promotes people-centered and development-oriented initiatives in health, education, gender equality, child protection, livelihoods, social justice and environmental sustainability, while strengthening grassroots institutions and community leadership for self-reliant and equitable development. RASTA was formally registered in August 2007 as a Charitable Trust under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 in Godda district of Jharkhand.

Our Mission

RASTA endeavors to empower deprived, marginalized and vulnerable communities, particularly women, children, adolescents, tribal communities and PVTGs, and to strengthen grassroots organizations through people-centered, participatory and sustainable development approaches.

The organization promotes holistic and inclusive initiatives in health, education, gender equality, child protection, livelihoods, social justice and environmental sustainability to build self-reliant, equitable and gender-just communities.

RASTA is committed to upholding human dignity, strengthening equitable social structures, and enabling women and socially deprived communities to access and claim their constitutional and fundamental rights, while promoting ecological balance and sustainable development.

Vision

To build a gender-just, egalitarian, disease-free, empowered and self-reliant society where all people live with dignity and have equal opportunities for sustainable development.

Objectives

  1. 1. To empower deprived, marginalized and vulnerable communities, especially women, children, adolescents, tribal communities, with a special focus on PVTGs and socially excluded groups, through participatory and community-led development processes.
  2. 2. To promote gender equality, women’s leadership, social justice and protection of child rights by preventing and responding to discrimination, gender-based violence, child marriage, trafficking and social exclusion.
  3. 3. To promote access to quality health services, education and life skills for children, adolescents and youth, and to strengthen sustainable livelihoods, skill development and economic empowerment of women and marginalized communities, including HIV/AIDS prevention, sexual and reproductive health rights and adolescent health, for holistic development and self-reliance.
  4. 4. To strengthen grassroots institutions, community-based organizations and local leadership for participatory governance, accountability and sustainable community development.
  5. 5. To promote human dignity, social inclusion and access to constitutional and legal entitlements for children, women and deprived communities through awareness generation and community empowerment.
  6. 6. To encourage ecological balance, environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources through community awareness and sustainable development practices.
  7. 7. To collaborate with government agencies, civil society organizations, networks and stakeholders for effective implementation of development and social welfare initiatives.

Development Networking-


  • RASTA is the member of Jharkhand Anti- Trafficking Network (JATN) to raise the issues of human trafficking in working areas. People in RASTA have the dedication and aptitude to initiate and to persevere on their tasks to uphold human dignity & equitable social structure to enable the women & socially deprived to claim their fundamental rights.

  • SAFAL Network: RASTA has raise issues of mal nutrient child at different platform with the support of IGGS/SRIJAN under Adopt A Panchayat (AAP) program. Under this program FLWs and community has also been sensitized regarding mal nutrient child.

  • Empanelment in SAMETI, Jharkhand: RASTA has got the empanelment in SAMETI Jharkhand with vide PR no. 111150 (agriculture) 2014-15 to ensure Integrated Agriculture Development in Godda and Giridih District of Jharkhnad.

  • Ibtida-CREA Network: RASTA, Godda is a partner of Ibtida-CREA with a objective to Strengthening feminist leadership to realise women’s human rights at the community level in Jharkhand’.

Governance, Management & Financial Systems:

The General Body and Executive Committee of RASTA comprise seven members under a democratic framework. The General Body meets half-yearly to review programs, assess actions taken, and approve any necessary changes in program components and implementation approaches in consultation with beneficiaries.

The Executive Committee is the primary decision-making body of RASTA, responsible for administrative decisions, procurement of resources and services, policy formulation, and approval of plans and budgets. The Annual Action Plan of RASTA initiatives is approved by the General Body, and activities are implemented accordingly.

Program in-charges and the monitoring team conduct regular internal monitoring of programs and budgets. Monthly staff meetings are held to review progress and prepare future action plans.

RASTA maintains a proper Tally-based computerized accounting system, which is updated regularly. The accounts are audited annually by an independent external agency, i.e., a Chartered Accountant, as per statutory requirements.

STRATEGY

RASTA follows a participatory, community-based, teamwork-oriented and gender-transformative approach to sustainable development. The organization designs need-based interventions through active community involvement and shared ownership, ensuring effective planning, implementation and monitoring of development initiatives.

RASTA forms and strengthens community-based organizations (CBOs), particularly focusing on women and adolescents, and builds their capacity to take responsibility for local development processes. Depending on the size and context of the village, one or more CBOs are supported in each village to ensure inclusive participation.

These community institutions actively engage in social, economic, cultural and awareness-building processes to promote social transformation, gender equality and inclusive development, while RASTA provides continuous technical guidance, capacity building and supportive supervision.


OPERATIONAL AREA & TARGET GROUPS:

RASTA started social work in Amarapara block of Pakur district (Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand state) among deprived sections of the society focusing on the tribal, the dalits, women & children especially of deprived families. At present RASTA is also working in remote rural areas of Gridih and Godda district of Jharkhand and Bhagalpur district of Bihar.
