Regulatory Association for Social & Territorial Assist (RASTA) is an independent, non-profit and community-based voluntary organization working at the grassroots level for participatory and sustainable development. Established by a group of socially committed and like-minded young individuals, RASTA works for the empowerment and upliftment of deprived, marginalized and vulnerable communities, particularly women, children, adolescents, tribal communities and PVTGs.
The organization promotes people-centered and development-oriented initiatives in health, education, gender equality, child protection, livelihoods, social justice and environmental sustainability, while strengthening grassroots institutions and community leadership for self-reliant and equitable development. RASTA was formally registered in August 2007 as a Charitable Trust under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 in Godda district of Jharkhand.
RASTA endeavors to empower deprived, marginalized and vulnerable communities, particularly women, children, adolescents, tribal communities and PVTGs, and to strengthen grassroots organizations through people-centered, participatory and sustainable development approaches.
The organization promotes holistic and inclusive initiatives in health, education, gender equality, child protection, livelihoods, social justice and environmental sustainability to build self-reliant, equitable and gender-just communities.
RASTA is committed to upholding human dignity, strengthening equitable social structures, and enabling women and socially deprived communities to access and claim their constitutional and fundamental rights, while promoting ecological balance and sustainable development.
To build a gender-just, egalitarian, disease-free, empowered and self-reliant society where all people live with dignity and have equal opportunities for sustainable development.
The General Body and Executive Committee of RASTA comprise seven members under a democratic framework. The General Body meets half-yearly to review programs, assess actions taken, and approve any necessary changes in program components and implementation approaches in consultation with beneficiaries.
The Executive Committee is the primary decision-making body of RASTA, responsible for administrative decisions, procurement of resources and services, policy formulation, and approval of plans and budgets. The Annual Action Plan of RASTA initiatives is approved by the General Body, and activities are implemented accordingly.
Program in-charges and the monitoring team conduct regular internal monitoring of programs and budgets. Monthly staff meetings are held to review progress and prepare future action plans.
RASTA maintains a proper Tally-based computerized accounting system, which is updated regularly. The accounts are audited annually by an independent external agency, i.e., a Chartered Accountant, as per statutory requirements.
RASTA follows a participatory, community-based, teamwork-oriented and gender-transformative approach to sustainable development. The organization designs need-based interventions through active community involvement and shared ownership, ensuring effective planning, implementation and monitoring of development initiatives.
RASTA forms and strengthens community-based organizations (CBOs), particularly focusing on women and adolescents, and builds their capacity to take responsibility for local development processes. Depending on the size and context of the village, one or more CBOs are supported in each village to ensure inclusive participation.
These community institutions actively engage in social, economic, cultural and awareness-building processes to promote social transformation, gender equality and inclusive development, while RASTA provides continuous technical guidance, capacity building and supportive supervision.
RASTA started social work in Amarapara block of Pakur district (Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand state) among deprived sections of the society focusing on the tribal, the dalits, women & children especially of deprived families. At present RASTA is also working in remote rural areas of Gridih and Godda district of Jharkhand and Bhagalpur district of Bihar.
